How to Customize Your New Mail Sounds

When you use Microsoft Outlook for your email, you hear a familiar chime when you receive a new message. That audible alert can be quite useful of course, but it can also become a bit boring over time. If you are tired of the same old email chime, you can use the customization features of Microsoft Outlook to change it to something you like better.

To change the sounds you hear when you receive a new email in Microsoft Outlook, just follow these simple steps.

Microsoft Outlook 2003 and 2007 1. Click the Tools menu
2. Choose Options
3. Click Email Options
4. Go to the Advanced Email Options button
5. Uncheck the Play a Sound button under the When New Items Arrive in My Inbox section
6. Click the Tools menu
7. Choose Rules and Alerts
8. Click New Rule to start the New Rule Wizard
9. Go to the Stay Up to Date section and select Play a Sound When I Get Messages
10. Click Next
11. Choose a particular sender if you want to assign a different sound to each person who sends you mail
12. Click Next, then Finish when you are finished

All you need to do now is close Microsoft Outlook and reopen it, then wait for a new message to arrive. Verify that your new sound plays when you receive a new message.
