If you have a laptop computer, optimizing the power settings can give you more battery life and allow you to use the unit more efficiently. If you have a desktop computer, changing the power settings can reduce your electricity bill and help the PC run more efficiently.

If your laptop or desktop computer is running the Windows 7 operating system, you can easily change the power settings through the control panel. Just follow these simple steps to make your computer use the available power more efficiently.
1. Right-click on a blank area of the desktop 2. Choose the Personalize option
3. Click Screen Saver
4. Click Power Settings
5. Go through each of the power settings
You can change how long the computer should remain on before going into hibernate mode, when to power the monitor down and how to bring the computer back from sleep mode. You can also experiment with several different power settings and options to see which combination gives you the most power for your money.
