How to View the Details and Preview Your Files

Knowing the details of a particular file, like how large it is or when it was created, can be very important. For instance, you may have several files with similar names, or several different versions of the same file. Knowing when each file was created and updated makes it easier for you to find the one you want.

If your computer uses the Windows 7 operating system, you can easily see the details of any file in the folder. You can also preview the contents of the file to make sure it is the right one, even before you open it.

To see the details of the files on your Windows 7 computer, just follow these simple steps.
1. Open Windows Explorer
2. Click Organize on the Windows Explorer window
3. Choose Layout
4. Review the list of menus and check boxes
5. Place a checkmark in the Preview box to allow Windows 7 to show you a preview of the file as you browse through the folder
6. Place a checkmark in the Details box to have Windows 7 display the details of each file as you click it

You can easily toggle the preview and detail panes on and off by checking and uncheking the appropriate boxes. That makes it easy for you to find the files you need, and to see what each file contains before you open it.
